The challenge with Covid

By 23 May 2021No Comments

If you’re anything like us the past 12 months have been a curve ball for you, going from working in an office to only seeing your colleagues and clients on the screen, while using Zoom or Teams daily.

Sharing a morning coffee is still just as nice, and comparing who built the largest snowman at the weekend by aiming your laptops out the window into the front garden is priceless.

One of the greatest things about marketing people is they are generally very adaptable and open to change, it only took a month for people to go from video calling in a well ironed polo to sitting in their boxer shorts, t shirt and hoodie.

Work flow transformation

The first thing we had to adapt was the work flow, marketing meetings are an important part of the on boarding process for new clients, to discuss ideas and set up strategy. Within weeks we quickly realised how useful all the applications that we’ve heard about but avoided actually are, and in fact these new processes have became more efficient and effective than before.

Human connection

Yes, we all like to communicate in person, it’s good for our mental health and allows us to offload thoughts and feelings. For most people this was the most difficult part to adapt to, the idea that you wont see any of your work buddies for a while, and then you realise that a Zoom call is just as ‘real’ as seeing a colleague in person.

Meeting brew

Have you noticed that for every Zoom meeting everyone turns up with a fresh cuppa? You can see the steam coming from it as they just left the kettle to head for their laptop looking sharp and prepared as always. There is of course the coffee drinkers, who after a busy day of on line meetings, get very little sleep because they’re waiting for their heart rate to get back down below 100.

Overall, we have all adapted very well to the new working conditions, and it makes us realise how fortunate we are that technology has developed so much, can you imagine if this happened during the 90’s, the world would have came to a stand still.
